I landed in Anchorage last night after a quick layover in Seattle where luckily I was able to meet up with my Dad & Anne for dinner – albeit at the airport but it was great to see them and certainly better than nothing! I grew up in Seattle a long time ago and a land faraway. It was a long flight and certainly a climate shocker beginning in Phoenix which is already over 100 degrees to cool, misty Anchorage, Alaska.
After picking up a rental car (pickup truck for all the gear moving I’ll have to do in the next few weeks) I proceeded down to Rabbit Creek in the dark south of Anchorage where I will be staying for the next month on & off. Within minutes of leaving the airport I almost hit a HUGE bear as he ran right in front of my vehicle! It’s only dark up here this time of year for a few hours late at night – remember it’s two in the morning, I’ve been flying all day and – oh #$% slam on the brakes and there is a bear! Nothing says welcome to Alaska like a bear in your headlights!
We are up here preparing for three upcoming photography trips as well as a personal backpacking trip into the Kenai Mountains near Homer with my wife and some friends. It’s beautiful in Alaska during June and I’ve found a great little cabin in the woods from which to base out of for the month – near enough to Anchorage to do anything I need to get done and far enough from Anchorage – to feel like I’m really in Alaska. Below is the upcoming schedule of events – and we do have a few spots left on some of these trips if you are itching for a camera related adventure – so come join us in the Great Land!
June 4th to 9th, 2018 | $6495
Step aboard and join us this summer for the photography safari of a lifetime through the icy waters, forested coves and stunning alpine scenery of Kenai Fjords National Park. A cornucopia of isolated wilderness, Kenai Fjords is a landscape teeming with wildlife – and due to it’s rugged terrain is largely only accessible by boat.
June 19th to 23rd, 2018 | $2895
Join us on the journey of a lifetime this summer to photograph the majestic Brown Bears of Coastal Alaska. Coastal Brown Bears are massive with adult boars regularly reaching weights of 1200 pounds as they gorge on salmon, clams & sedges on the stunning coastline of the Alaskan Peninsula.
July 5th to 9th, 2018 | $2695
Embark on the journey of a lifetime to the remote wilderness of Katmai National Park, Alaska to photograph Grizzly Bears up close and personal! Katmai is one of the largest National Parks in the United States at over 4 million acres and is arguably the single best place on Earth to photograph Grizzlies in their natural environment.
