New Departure Dates: Ultimate Botswana Wildlife Safari & Mountain Gorillas of Rwanda

New departure dates have been added to our calendar, and are now bookable, for two separate 2021 Backcountry Journeys’ photography trips to Africa!

Reserve your spot today for our Ultimate Botswana Wildlife Safari and/or Mountain Gorillas of Rwanda photography trips. Both trips are set for November 2021 and have limited space available (especially Mountain Gorillas as groups must be kept small to accommodate the animals).

For most of us, Africa is a far-off place. As such, these two trips have been scheduled so that folks can book these trips back-to-back, thereby taking full advantage of the long trip to Africa. By participating in both trips, you’ll combine a classic, yet cutting edge, African Wildlife Safari with a truly once-in-a-lifetime adventure to Rwanda and the Mountain Gorillas who call the mountains their home.

This trip takes us deep inside Chobe National Park where the highlights will be river cruises along the Chobe River as well as the Okavango Delta & Mashatu. We’ll explore the wildlife-rich banks of the Chobe River by custom-built safari boats – allowing us to get amazingly close to large herds of elephants, impalas, buffalo, and other wildlife as they appear on the banks. Incredible, full-frame eye-level shots of swimming hippos and hunting lions are possible as we cruise downriver each day. **For this departure only, the Ultimate Botswana Wildlife Safari will include a FREE additional day at Mashatu Game Reserve!

Please note: This is a “standard” tour so there is little to no hiking on this trip. Most of the excursion is by boat or 4×4 safari vehicle.

This adventure will be a truly life-changing experience as we set out each day to hike amongst the clouded bamboo forests here in search of the endangered Mountain Gorilla, a wild beast that shares 98% of its DNA with humans. We’ll be sure to find, photograph, and watch these gentle giants as they spend their days foraging for food and resting. But, it is not just Gorillas on this itinerary. We’ll also take time to photograph Golden monkeys, the highly endangered primate who also resides in the Virunga volcanic mountains.

Please note: This is a hiking intensive tour so all participants must be in good physical condition and have the ability to hike for two to five hours, each day, carrying a daypack with camera equipment.
