Africa is a continent unlike any other. For photographers, like us, wildlife safaris offer an incredible journey across vast landscapes in a wildly intense environment with non-stop action. Imagine being face-to-face with a leopard, or cruising at high speeds with a running pride of lions. Wildlife photographer heaven? Such is Africa.
Today we are officially announcing Backcountry Journey’s newest international tour – Botswana: Land of Giants!
This exciting safari will take us to Mashatu, a picturesque and privately owned 72,000-acre game reserve, where we’ll spend six days photographing a wide-array of wildlife found inside the preserved wilderness. Mashatu means “land of the giants,” which is a reference to the huge trees that dominate the landscape. More importantly for our purposes, it is one of the best locations in Africa for big cat photography – lion, leopard, and cheetah are regularly spotted on the dusty expanses of the Mashatu Game Reserve. Mashatu is home to no less than seven of Africa’s “giants” – the African elephant, the lion, giraffe, the baobab tree, the eland, ostrich and the kori bustard.
This safari features some of the best big cat photography in all of Africa
This trip will combine seamlessly your best chances to see and photograph Africa’s ‘major players’ with your choice between staying in either a safari-style “camp,” or an incredible lodge room designed for absolute luxury and privacy. Whichever suits you best! Mashatu will provide Backcountry Journeys photographers a serene and exclusive experience as we enjoy its bewildering diversity and abundance of wildlife.
Picture yourself, and your camera, so close to those elephants that you feel as if they might be breathing down your neck. In fact, Mashatu is just the kind of place that will provide you with all of “the feels.” It is a place where you can understand Africa, and all that it is in its truest sense.
