New Trip(s): Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula & Interior Alaska, Denali & Prince William Sound
by BCJ Staff
Today, Backcountry Journeys announces two new trips: Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula, and Interior Alaska, as well as Denali & Prince William Sound. These two Alaska-based photography tour itineraries will redefine what it is to be a photography tour.

There simply are no trip itineraries anywhere out there that will give you a more complete Alaskan experience. If you want to see and photograph a perfectly balanced sampling of all that makes Alaska what it is, these trips are your ticket to ride! And, by “ride” we mean: by vehicle, by boat, and by air.

There really are no limits with these two new trips. Neither will be ‘just a wildlife trip,’ or, ‘only landscape-based.’ These trips will blend both styles of nature photography with equal fervor.

These tours will also not be limited to a particular season – you’ll be able to pick between spring, summer, winter, and/or autumn departure dates. And, as mentioned above, these tours will not be limited to only vehicle travel, either. Sure, we’ll be doing a good deal of driving as we explore these special parts of the ‘Last Frontier’- but, we’ll also take to coastal waters by boat, and to the skies via bush plane! Whatever it takes to get the shots.

Let’s take a quick look at each trip individually:

Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula
7 Day Tour
Limited to 5 Photographers

If you want to talk about diversity in a single photo trip itinerary, this is it. Much of the beauty of Alaska is in the splendor of its mountains. This trip has mountain and glacial landscape opportunities galore as we see and photograph the Chugach and Kenai Mountains, as well as Iliamna Volcano all in the soft light of golden hour.

Don’t put away those long lenses because you’ll need them for when we set afloat upon our privately chartered boat to see and photograph all the marine wildlife in and around Resurrection Bay at Kenai Fjords National Park – think seal, otter, puffin, and Orca. Another boat trip will have us in search of wildlife and towering glaciers in Kachemak Bay, near the port village of Homer.

Alaska is the best place anywhere to see and photograph bears, so that is what we’ll do. However, on this itinerary we’ll not just photograph from the shores, we’ll also be doing from the air as we fly over. Yes, you read that right – by air, flying overhead along the Cook Inlet and the Katmai coast.

Interior Alaska, Denali & Prince William Sound
9 Day Tour
Limited to 5 Photographers

The rugged, wild and mostly untouched landscape of interior Alaska will be front-and-center on this exciting photography tour. Have you ever flown across the Alaskan sky, in a bush plane, landing directly upon a glacier? If you choose to travel on this itinerary with Backcountry Journeys, you’ll be able to say you have!

Staying in Denali Village will have us perfectly located for the beauty of the National Park’s iconic mountain landscapes, and the Northern Lights could be on display here at night in autumn, spring and winter.

A boat-based tour of Prince William Sound will have us in front of marine wildlife such as eagles, whales, and puffin. Glaciers will tower over us as we float across the icy waters. Epic mountain and glacier scenery will be on tap, including perfectly timed shots of the Wrangell Mountains & Alaska Range.

In autumn and winter these trips can be combined with our outstanding Alaska Northern Lights Extensions so that when everyone else goes home, you’ll transfer north to Fairbanks where you’ll have an additional three nights geared specifically to capturing the Northern Lights.

Game Changed. Excited? We are.

If you want to really see and photography Alaska, there isn’t a better option or more complete way to do it, anywhere.
