What Our Guests are Saying (So Far) in 2021…
by Kenton Krueger
Things are starting to happen, again. Slowly, sure. But steadily, as a country, we seem to be progressing and Backcountry Journeys Photography Tours, Workshops & Safaris are beginning to run in earnest once again.

We’re getting back to traveling, and we’re loving it! And so far, so good.

We’re still maintaining safety precautions developed during the past year, and are constantly looking out for the safety of our guests as our number one priority.

We’ve been looking forward to getting back out there, doing what we love to do, which is to travel to amazing locations alongside our guests providing them comfortable, safe, and fun learning experiences.

This note is simply to let you know that BCJ guests are once again getting out there and having a blast doing so as we return to select destinations. So far we’ve been able to successfully, and safely, run a handful of BCJ tours including two separate departures to the Florida Everglades, two separate Night Skies of the Southwest workshops, Ultimate Northern Lights, and Bald Eagles of Alaska, among a few others.

And, so far the results have been positive across the board! Our guests have reported being thrilled to be back, surrounded by the natural world, learning and practicing their photography skills with an assortment of different styles from night skies and wildlife to natural landscapes. And they’re reporting they feel confident and comfortable, which we chalk up to our COVID safety-enhancing measures implemented last year (Read more on these here).

We can go on and on about it, but why not take it directly from folks who’ve traveled with us in the past few months. The following are a sampling of recent comments we’ve received:

Northern Lights
Tina M. (Portland)
“From start (booking) to finish ~ Backcountry Journeys delivered what they offered and more. Dealing with Covid cancellation challenges was a smooth sail working with Jillian who easily was able to switch trips around to make this happen. The host for the trip, Russell Groves was reliable, entertaining, informative, flexible, fun, and knowledgeable. We entrusted him with driving us to remote places into the wee hours of the night and morning to make our photographs, and I always felt safe with him at the helm. This trip afforded a bit of flexibility to work with Mother Nature and I think I could not have been handed a better abundance of wildlife and night skies to photograph. The accommodations were great. Very comfortable and convenient and the folks at the hotel were friendly and helpful. The restaurants that Russell chose for our dinners were great too. Can’t wait for my next trip with BCJ!”

“Truly a great experience, from booking to pre-trip prep to accommodations to guides, these guys do an excellent job in making everything easy and stress-free. This is my second trip with BCJ and I’ve enjoyed both equally and highly recommend them. Our guide Ben was outstanding, his knowledge of the area got us to some of the best locations for night photography and daytime landscapes. He provided instructions regarding camera settings, composition, and post-processing that addressed a wide range of photography experience and made sure each in the group would return home with quality photographs. I have plans to take my third trip with BCJ very soon.”

Backcountry Journeys Made it Happen!
-Scott M. (California)

“I had a wonderful time! I’m certainly looking forward to not only the bear trip in July but other trips in the future as well. You guys really put a nice trip together for us and I’m looking forward to more adventures with Backcountry Journeys. Thanks for making it such a good experience from the first phone call through the last day. Now you can see what I’ve been so excited about it. It was amazing! Backcountry Journeys made it all happen so smoothly.”

Great Ultimate Northern Lights trip! Highly Recommend Backcountry Journeys!
Cindy S. (Oklahoma)

“I’m an amateur photographer and wanted a tour that focused on getting “the picture” as well as teaching you about your camera and getting those pictures. This group did exactly that. I went on Backcountry Journey’s Ultimate Northern Lights. Had a fantastic experience! Our guide, Russ, was knowledgeable, helpful, patient, and definitely wanted us to have a good photo experience. Ours was a small group (thanks to COVID), but he gave individual attention to each of us and was always ready to answer questions or help. Fortunately for our group, the weather, KP numbers, and solar wind cooperated and we got some incredible pics! Russ had several different sites picked out for us to view the Lights, and was flexible to make changes when the weather dictated to do so. They chose a very nice hotel and restaurants for us. They also had COVID rules that the group adhered to, making the trip comfortable under the circumstances. I would highly recommend the company and will travel with them in the future.”

Great for Beginner to Expert!
-Gregory B. (Florida)

“The Everglades trip in February 2021 was my first trip with Backcountry Journeys, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Needless to say, it was one of the best trips I have been on. I am relatively new at taking photos and had a new camera I wasn’t that familiar with, so being in a small group allowed me to get hands-on help from the guide. The tour itself ran very smoothly and was well planned out. I will definitely go on another trip with Backcountry soon.”

Another Great Photo Tour (From autumn 2020)
-Julie K. (California)

“The Smoky Mountains trip in late October was amazing. As always Backcountry did a top-notch job of scheduling the trip, scouting locations, and being attentive to the safety of their guests. This was my third trip with Backcountry and I have two more scheduled. Their guides are professional photographers who are interested in helping their clients get the best shots and in teaching techniques.

Toot Our Own Horn, Alert!!
Backcountry Journeys’ was awarded the World Travel and Tourism Council’s Safe Travel certification for our commitment to an accepted standard of health and hygiene protocols in the COVID-19 era. These protocols are based on medical evidence and guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization, and the World Travel and Tourism Council. With over 1200 travel organizations currently using this badge of safety, it offers travelers an objective, 3rd party verification tool to verify companies have implemented science-driven protocols and are meeting high safety standards.

We know that not everyone is ready yet to get back out there, and that is OK. For those who are waiting it out, know that we will be here for you when you are comfortable. For those who are ready to travel at this time, BCJ remains committed to doing so as safely as possible. We are excited to be your host in whichever location you might choose in 2021, or beyond. See you all in the field, behind the lens, soon!
