The Canon R5 is so hot right now, in fact, according to a published report by MapCamera, one of Japan’s leading camera retailers, it tops their list of new camera sales as the number one seller in December 2020.
This camera is literally ‘on fire’ right now, and for good reason. It is an excellent release from Canon. Backcountry Journeys’ listed the R5 at number one on our list of Top Cameras of 2020, with BCJ guide Matt Meisenheimer calling it, “one of Canon’s best cameras ever,” as well as, “Canon’s flagship mirrorless model.”
While December was the first month the R5 appeared at the top of MapCamera’s list, that was likely more so due to Japanese retailers having difficulty keeping the R5 on store shelves because of limited quantities. A large supply hit shelves and then disappeared from shelves, in December. This shortage, according to MapCamera, is “by no means over.”
The Canon EOS R5, for those who don’t already know, is a 45MP full-frame mirrorless camera that can shoot clips of 8K video, has impressive Dual Pixel autofocus, and excellent ergonomics. And word on the street is that this body is quickly achieving the status as one of the most powerful and capable mirrorless cameras available. Canon’s EOS R5 is a fantastic choice for professionals and those desirous of max capability. From wildlife action to landscapes, this camera has it.
“The EOS R5 received big boosts in dynamic range and noise handling to level it with similar offerings from Nikon and Sony,” Matt Meisenheimer said in an article posted on backcountryjourneys.com. “It’s a do-it-all machine – excellent for landscapes, incredible AF and fast burst speeds for wildlife, and 8K30 video capabilities along with internal 4K120 10-bit internal video,” Meisenheimer said. “No other full-frame mirrorless comes close to those video specs right now.”
