If you’ve ever dreamed of photographing Africa’s most iconic wildlife in remote, uncrowded settings—with front-row access to intimate moments few ever witness—this is your chance. Our brand-new Hidden Gems of Northern Kenya photo safari offers a rare opportunity to go far beyond the typical safari experience. Over ten immersive days, you’ll journey from the foothills of Mt. Kenya to the dramatic landscapes of Samburu, capturing everything from endangered rhinos to rare desert-adapted species—all with expert guidance and exclusive photographic access.
We begin in Nairobi, but the adventure truly starts at Ol Pejeta Conservancy, one of East Africa’s premier wildlife sanctuaries and a global leader in conservation. Ol Pejeta protects the last two surviving northern white rhinos, a living symbol of a species on the brink. Beyond that, Ol Pejeta boasts some of the highest densities of black rhinos in Africa, along with lions, leopards, Grevy’s zebras, and even African wild dogs. You’ll enjoy unlimited game drives and exclusive access to a custom-built photo hide, allowing for breathtakingly close, low-angle images in a completely unobtrusive setting.
From Ol Pejeta, we venture north into the wild, otherworldly terrain of Samburu—a striking landscape of volcanic hills, dry riverbeds, and doum palm oases. While Samburu is already known for its unique wildlife, including the elusive “Samburu Special Five” (reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, beisa oryx, and gerenuk), it’s the photographic hide here that sets this destination apart.
This isn’t just any hide—it’s widely considered one of the best photographic hides in all of Africa.
Purpose-built for serious wildlife photography and tucked discreetly into the landscape near a water source, this hide offers a front-row seat to wildlife behavior you simply can’t capture from a vehicle. With incredible proximity, low-angle perspectives, and golden light filtering in at just the right times, it’s a dream setup for capturing truly world-class images. Wildlife—including elephants, giraffes, oryx, zebras, and a variety of birdlife—approach undisturbed, often just feet from your lens.
Each guest receives two sessions in the Samburu hide—one morning and one late afternoon, in addition to daily game drives. It’s a profoundly immersive experience where the wildlife comes to you, and the photographic possibilities are unmatched. For many, this hide alone is the highlight of the trip—and worth the journey by itself.
What truly sets this safari apart is the freedom to focus on photography. This is not a rushed checklist trip. With two full days in Ol Pejeta and four full days in Samburu, you’ll have time to settle in, learn the rhythms of the animals, and wait for the perfect light. You’ll travel with a small group of like-minded photographers and have the flexibility to choose how long you’re in the field, maximizing every opportunity.
Even more, this trip is an ideal pairing with our Masai Mara & Amboseli: Icons of Africa. Scheduled back-to-back, these two experiences together offer an unmatched journey across Kenya—from the sweeping grasslands and elephants of Amboseli to the hidden corners of the north—combining marquee destinations with authentic, low-traffic gems. In fact, the regions featured on this trip sit just outside the Masai Mara and arguably rival its photographic opportunities—with a fraction of the crowds.
With limited space, private guiding, and exclusive hide access already secured, this experience is tailor-made for passionate photographers looking for rare moments, iconic species, and images that few others will ever capture.
Don’t just see Africa—capture it like never before.

Day 3 & 4: Exploring Ol Pejeta (B,L,D)
For the next two days, we’ll have full, uninterrupted time to explore Ol Pejeta. With unlimited game drives and exclusive access to a professional photo hide, we’ll be in a prime position to photograph everything from elephants and lions to the critically endangered northern white rhinos. Whether we’re chasing golden light at sunrise or capturing late afternoon drama near a watering hole, this is our chance to slow down, observe, and shoot with intention.
Day 5: Journey to Samburu National Reserve (B,L,D)
We’ll start our day with an early morning game drive and a leisurely breakfast back at camp. These four days are all about immersion. We’ll explore the rugged beauty of Samburu National Reserve with unlimited game drives tailored around the best light and wildlife activity. We’ll seek out the Samburu Special Five—like the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, and long-necked gerenuk—while also looking for elephants, leopards, lions, and vibrant birdlife. With exclusive access to the hide, we’ll capture low-angle, intimate images most travelers can only dream of. The landscapes here are dramatic and wild, adding even more magic to every frame.
Day 10: Return to Nairobi and Departure (B,L,D)
After one last early morning game drive and a final breakfast in camp, we’ll say goodbye to Samburu and fly back to Nairobi. On arrival at Wilson Airport, we’ll be picked up and taken to day rooms at the Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport Hotel, where we can freshen up before our international flights. If we’d like to do some shopping or grab lunch in town, transport is available at no extra cost. And just like that, our photographic journey comes to a close—but the images and memories we’ve made will stay with us forever!
