Trip Description:

Experience Kenya from a true wildlife photographer’s perspective on an immersive journey focused on some of Africa’s premier wildlife hides. Rather than simply viewing wildlife from a safari vehicle, we’ll spend extended time in the field with opportunities to photograph animals from specialized hides positioned near productive water sources, creating intimate, low-angle images and capturing natural behaviors without the presence of a vehicle in the frame.

Our journey takes us to two exceptional wildlife destinations: Lumo Wildlife Conservancy and Lentorre. We’ll travel by private charter aircraft from Nairobi to the conservancies, between our safari locations, and back again at the end of the journey, dramatically reducing unnecessary overland travel time and allowing us to spend more of the trip where it matters most: in the field photographing wildlife.

Throughout the safari, our group will also have two dedicated safari vehicles, allowing every photographer to have their own row. This provides significantly more room for camera equipment, greater freedom to move between shooting positions, and unobstructed access to photograph from either side of the vehicle as wildlife opportunities unfold.

In Lumo, we’ll have access to waterhole hides where wildlife comes to drink, offering some of the most compelling photographic opportunities of the trip. From the comfort and concealment of the hide, we can settle into position and wait for animals to approach naturally. The water creates opportunities for intimate portraits, reflections, drinking behavior, interactions between species, and dramatic moments as animals gather at the water’s edge. Because we’re photographing from a concealed position rather than a vehicle, we can work at a lower perspective and create images with a more immersive, eye-level feel.

We’ll also have the opportunity to use hides at Lentorre, combining these specialized photography experiences with flexible game drives across the surrounding wilderness. This gives us the best of both approaches: the ability to quietly wait for wildlife at a productive water source, while also covering more ground by vehicle in search of animals, behaviors, and landscapes.

Our schedule is intentionally designed to give us time behind the camera. We can remain in a hide when the action is unfolding, return to productive locations, and take advantage of the beautiful early-morning and evening light. Potential night game drives add another dimension, offering opportunities to photograph and observe nocturnal wildlife that we would rarely encounter during daylight hours.

This is more than a traditional Kenyan safari. It is a dedicated wildlife photography experience built around access, patience, perspective, and comfort. By combining premier waterhole hides, flexible game drives, private charter flights, spacious safari vehicles with a dedicated row for every photographer, and extended stays in two exceptional wildlife areas, we’ll have the time and freedom to create intimate wildlife images that simply aren’t possible on a conventional safari.

 Trip Itinerary

Most meals included – (B,L,D) denotes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 1 — Arrival in Nairobi (D)
We’ll begin our adventure in Nairobi, where we’ll be met upon arrival and transferred to our hotel. After settling in, we’ll gather for dinner and introductions, giving us a chance to meet our fellow photographers and review the exciting safari ahead.

Days 2–4 — Lumo Wildlife Conservancy (B,L,D)
After breakfast, we’ll transfer to Wilson Airport and board our private charter flight to Lumo Wildlife Conservancy. Upon arrival, we’ll transfer to our lodge, check in, and enjoy lunch before heading out for our first afternoon photography session.

Over the next three days, we’ll explore Lumo with flexible game drives and access to specialized wildlife hides, including waterhole hides that provide exceptional opportunities to photograph animals as they come to drink. We’ll have the flexibility to spend time in the hides when wildlife activity is good or head out by vehicle in search of additional photographic opportunities.

We’ll also have the opportunity for night game drives, offering a different perspective on the wildlife and the chance to photograph species that become active after dark.

Day 5 — Lumo to Lentorre (B,L,D)
We’ll enjoy one final morning wildlife activity in Lumo before breakfast, then transfer to the airstrip for our private charter flight to Lentorre.

After arriving and settling into Lentorre Lodge, we’ll head out for an afternoon game drive or hide session, taking advantage of the changing afternoon light.

Days 6–8 — Full Days in Lentorre (B,L,D)
We’ll spend three full days exploring Lentorre, combining game drives with access to wildlife hides. The hides provide opportunities to photograph wildlife in a quiet, intimate setting, while game drives allow us to cover more ground and seek out additional species and behaviors.

Our schedule will remain flexible so we can spend more time where wildlife activity and photographic conditions are at their best, making the most of the morning and evening light.

Day 9 — Lentorre to Nairobi (B)
We’ll enjoy one final morning wildlife activity in Lentorre before breakfast. Afterward, we’ll transfer back to Nairobi via a charter flight.

Once we arrive, we’ll have day rooms at the Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport Hotel, giving us a comfortable place to relax, freshen up, organize our luggage, and review some of the incredible images we’ve captured throughout the safari. Flights home can be booked any time after 3 PM.

Please note that the exact sequence of the itineraries on all photography trips will be based on weather and lighting conditions. The goal on these trips is to make sure we are at the right place at the right time for the perfect light on our subjects. Also, itineraries can change for a variety of other circumstances including floods, forest fires, national park closures, road closures, and more. Due to the nature of wildlife and landscape photography, we do not guarantee any specific sightings or specific compositions.

Physical Requirements

This trip requires minimal physical activity, as photography is primarily done from safari vehicles. Guests should expect bumpy rides on rough roads and will need to climb in and out of vehicles multiple times a day. While most walking is limited to lodge areas and designated sites, the terrain may be uneven. Days start early and can be long, with varying temperatures from cool mornings to warm afternoons. Participants should be comfortable handling their camera gear and adapting to the physical demands of extended time in the field.
