Photograph Coastal Brown Bears Up Close – Spend multiple days photographing Alaska's iconic brown bears in remote tidal habitats, capturing natural behaviors such as feeding, foraging, and family interactions in one of the world's premier bear photography destinations.
Explore Aboard a Private Expedition Vessel – Our exclusive charter of My Lady Alaska allows us to move freely along the Katmai coast, adapting to wildlife activity, tides, and weather to maximize photographic opportunities throughout the week.
An Incredible Diversity of Marine Wildlife – Beyond the bears, we'll search for humpback whales, orcas, sea otters, harbor seals, Steller sea lions, puffins, bald eagles, and countless seabirds that call this rugged coastline home.
Small Group, Big Photography Opportunities – With personalized instruction, flexible scheduling, and access to remote beaches reached only by boat and skiff, you'll enjoy an immersive wildlife photography experience designed to help you create your strongest images yet.
There are few places on Earth where wildlife photographers can experience the rugged beauty of coastal Alaska quite like Katmai National Park. Aboard the comfortable expedition vessel My Lady Alaska, we'll spend a week exploring one of North America's richest ecosystems, where towering volcanoes, glacier-carved fjords, remote beaches, and productive tidal estuaries create the perfect habitat for an astonishing diversity of wildlife.
Unlike land-based bear photography trips, our private liveaboard expedition gives us the freedom to follow the wildlife. With an experienced captain and crew monitoring tides, weather, and animal activity, we can reposition throughout the week to maximize photographic opportunities. Whether that means spending extra time with a family of coastal brown bears, cruising to a new bay where whales have been spotted, or exploring a shoreline alive with sea otters and puffins, every day is guided by the best opportunities nature provides.
Our primary focus is photographing Alaska's magnificent coastal brown bears in their natural habitat. We'll land by skiff on remote beaches and tidal flats, often observing bears feeding, digging for clams, grazing on sedges, or interacting with cubs—all from respectful distances that allow for intimate, behavior-rich images. Because the bears here experience relatively little human activity, their natural behaviors often unfold in extraordinary ways, creating exceptional opportunities for compelling wildlife photography.
The wildlife extends far beyond bears. Throughout the expedition we'll search for humpback whales, orcas, sea otters, harbor seals, Steller sea lions, bald eagles, puffins, and a variety of seabirds that thrive along this spectacular coastline. Every cruise between destinations offers the possibility of unexpected encounters, making even travel time an exciting part of the photographic adventure.
This is an expedition designed specifically for photographers. With a small group, personalized instruction, flexible scheduling, and access to remote locations that few visitors ever experience, you'll have the time and freedom to create thoughtful images rather than simply check wildlife off a list. Whether you're photographing dramatic bear interactions, intimate wildlife portraits, or sweeping coastal landscapes bathed in Alaska's soft summer light, this promises to be one of the most rewarding wildlife photography experiences anywhere in the world.

Most meals included – (B,L,D) denotes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 1 – Arrive in Kodiak, Alaska (D)
Arrive in Kodiak and make your way to our hotel, where you'll meet your instructors and fellow photographers. Depending on arrival times, there may be an opportunity to explore the waterfront, photograph Kodiak Harbor, or simply relax after your travels. This evening we'll gather for a welcome dinner, review the week ahead, discuss photography goals, and prepare our gear for tomorrow's charter flight into the Alaskan wilderness.
Day 2 – Charter Flight to the Katmai Coast & Embark My Lady Alaska (B,L,D)
This morning we board a scenic charter flight across the Shelikof Strait to meet My Lady Alaska, our expedition vessel for the week. The flight itself offers spectacular aerial views of rugged mountains, glaciers, and Alaska's wild coastline.
After settling into our cabins, we'll begin cruising the Katmai coast while keeping a watchful eye for sea otters, harbor seals, Steller sea lions, puffins, bald eagles, whales, and other marine wildlife. If conditions allow, we'll make our first landing to photograph coastal brown bears before returning to the comfort of the boat for dinner.
Days 3–7 – Exploring the Wild Katmai Coast (B,L,D)
Each day is shaped by the wildlife. Our experienced captain and guides continually monitor tides, weather, and bear activity, allowing us to position the boat where photographic opportunities are at their very best.
We'll explore several different bays and coastal estuaries throughout Katmai National Park, landing by skiff to photograph brown bears feeding, foraging, playing, and interacting naturally in spectacular wilderness settings. Because we're mobile, we can relocate whenever changing conditions create better opportunities elsewhere along the coast.
While bears are our primary focus, the Katmai coastline offers an incredible diversity of wildlife. Throughout the week we'll also search for:
Sea otters floating through protected coves
Harbor seals hauled out on rocky shorelines
Steller sea lions
Bald eagles
Puffins and other seabirds
Humpback whales
Orcas (when luck is on our side)
Wolves and foxes, which are occasionally seen along the beaches
Photography sessions often begin early and extend into the evening to take advantage of the best light, while midday hours may be spent cruising scenic fjords, repositioning the vessel, reviewing images, or simply enjoying one of the wildest coastlines in North America. Every day is different, making each expedition a unique experience.
Day 8 – Final Morning Wildlife Photography & Return to Kodiak (B)
We'll enjoy one final photography session before saying goodbye to the Katmai coast. After breakfast we'll board our charter flight back to Kodiak, carrying home memory cards filled with remarkable wildlife encounters and unforgettable experiences from one of Alaska's most remote and spectacular regions.
Depending on flight schedules, guests may depart this afternoon or choose to spend an additional night in Kodiak before continuing their travels.
