Coastal Brown Bear Encounters: Photograph wild brown bears at eye level as they graze in lush sedge meadows, roam tidal flats, and interact naturally in an open, unobstructed landscape ideal for clean compositions.
Extended June Golden Light: Take advantage of Alaska’s long daylight hours, with soft morning tones and glowing evening light that stretches late into the day for maximum shooting flexibility.
Puffin & Seabird Excursion: Enjoy a half-day boat trip to a nearby puffin colony, capturing seabirds in flight, perched with colorful beaks full of fish, and framed against rugged coastal cliffs.
Small-Group, On-Foot Access: Work alongside experienced guides in a highly mobile, photographer-focused environment that allows us to position thoughtfully for dynamic storytelling images rather than being confined to platforms.
Tucked along the wild coastline of the Alaska Peninsula, our time at Silver Salmon Creek Lodge places us in one of the most intimate and photographer-friendly bear environments on the planet. Unlike locations where wildlife viewing happens at a distance, here we work at eye level with coastal brown bears moving naturally through sedge meadows, tidal flats, and salmon-rich streams. The landscape is wide open, which means clean backgrounds, low shooting angles, and unobstructed compositions—an absolute dream for wildlife photographers. In June especially, we photograph bears in luminous green grasses and reflective tidal pools, often with snow-capped volcanoes rising in the distance.
What makes this location truly one-of-a-kind is the freedom of movement. Rather than being confined to viewing platforms, we’ll be on foot with experienced guides who understand bear behavior deeply. That allows us to position ourselves thoughtfully for dynamic storytelling images—sparring siblings, patient mothers with cubs, bears grazing peacefully in soft light, or massive boars striding across the beach. The long June daylight stretches our shooting opportunities well into the evening, giving us golden light that seems to last forever and the flexibility to adapt to weather, tides, and behavior in real time.
The photographic diversity extends beyond bears. A half-day boat excursion to a nearby puffin colony offers the chance to capture seabirds in flight, perched with beaks full of fish, or framed against dramatic coastal cliffs. Around the lodge, bald eagles, shorebirds, and ever-changing coastal weather create additional creative opportunities. When tides are right, calm slough waters provide reflections and serene landscape scenes that contrast beautifully with the power of bear encounters.
This is an immersive photographic experience in one of Alaska’s most raw and productive ecosystems. The combination of walk-in access, expert guiding, extended daylight, and layered coastal scenery makes this an environment where both beginners and seasoned photographers can create truly portfolio-worthy work. Few places in the world offer this level of access, safety, and creative freedom with wild brown bears—and that’s what makes this journey unforgettable.

Most meals included – (B,L,D) denotes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 1 – Arrival in Anchorage (D)
We’ll arrive in Anchorage and overnight near the airport, giving everyone time to settle in, organize gear, and rest up before heading into the field. We'll meet for dinner and orientation, and this will be a great opportunity to go over the week's logistics so the transition into Alaska is smooth and stress-free.
Day 2 – Fly to the Lodge & First Bear Session (B,L,D)
We’ll meet in the morning and fly out at 9 AM from Lake Hood’s wheel airstrip. The scenic flight to the lodge takes about an hour, and we’ll be met right on the beach before transferring by ATV to the lodge. After settling into our cabins and a short orientation with guide assignments, we’ll head straight into the field for our first bear photography session. We’ll break for lunch around 1 PM, return to the field afterward, enjoy dinner at 7 PM, and often head back out again in the long summer evening light, sometimes shooting until 8:30 PM.
Day 3–6 – Full Bear Photography Days (B,L,D)
We’ll spend our days fully immersed in bear photography, taking advantage of prime tidal cycles and the soft, extended daylight that summer is known for. Each day will be structured around the best wildlife activity and light, with morning and afternoon field sessions, midday meals at the lodge, and evening outings when conditions are right. On one favorable weather day, we’ll take a half-day charter boat trip to a puffin nesting island 12 miles away (included), offering exciting seabird photography opportunities. During downtime, we may also enjoy short nature walks, canoeing, or afternoon sea kayaking in the calm slough waters around the lodge if tides allow—quiet, scenic options that add variety to our experience.
Day 7 – Return to Anchorage (B)
Depending on flight timing and weather, we’ll either enjoy a final short morning session or a relaxed breakfast before transferring back to the beach for our return flight to Anchorage. After about an hour in the air, we’ll arrive back in the city with full memory cards, incredible bear encounters, and a truly Alaskan experience behind us.
