Artistic Direction and Skill-Building with a Pro Photographer
Join Backcountry Journeys on a once-in-a-lifetime photography adventure to capture the beauty of a solar eclipse! We will also be visiting two of America's most iconic National Parks: Bryce Canyon & Zion. This is a special and rare natural phenomenon to witness - photographing and viewing an eclipse is a life changing event. There will not be another solar eclipse event in the Southwest until 2045!
An eclipse is challenging to photograph, as light fluctuates greatly during the various eclipse periods. But great news! On this workshop, you'll have a professional photographer by your side to help guide you through photographing the eclipse, and ensuring you capture some 'WOW' images!
The trip will start with an orientation, where we will discuss trip logistics and get to know each other. The following day, we'll drive to Zion National Park and spend the day there, capturing its towering red cliffs, narrow canyons, and breathtaking vistas.
Next, we'll head to Bryce Canyon National Park, where we'll explore the park's unique hoodoos, arches, and spires. We'll photograph many of the best hoodoo viewpoints, like Bryce Point, Inspiration Point, and Sunset Point.
On our final morning, we'll be in the right place at the right time to capture the Annular Solar Eclipse on October 14th, a rare and breathtaking event. Our experienced instructors will be on hand to provide tips, guidance, and support as you photograph this once-in-a-lifetime occurrence.
This all-inclusive workshop includes comfortable lodging, transportation, delicious meals, and expert photography instruction, and transportation.
More Information On The Annular Solar Eclipse:
A annular solar eclipse is a rare and spectacular event that occurs when the moon passes in front of the sun, appearing as a dark disk in the sky with a bright ring of sunlight surrounding it. This type of eclipse occurs when the moon is at its farthest point from Earth, making it appear smaller in the sky and unable to completely cover the sun, resulting in the stunning "ring of fire" effect.
Annular solar eclipses are rare, and are often visible only from a limited area on Earth. This makes the opportunity to witness and photograph an annular solar eclipse a truly once-in-a-lifetime event. Don't miss the chance to be a part of this incredible experience and capture it on camera with Backcountry Journeys.

Day 1 (D)
Arrive to St. George, Utah.
There will be a group orientation at 5:00 pm local time, followed by a group dinner.
Day 2 (B,L,D)
We will depart for sunrise and morning shoots in Zion National Park. We will spend most of the day photographing and exploring Zion. We'll visit one of the many great restaurants on the outskirts of Zion before traveling to Bryce Canyon National Park.
We'll arrive in the late afternoon/evening and shoot sunset at an iconic viewpoint on the rim of Bryce Canyon.
Day 3 (B, L, D)
Today, we have a full day to explore Bryce Canyon. We'll start with a sunrise shoot on the rim. Bryce Canyon is famous for its incredible sunrises, as they light up the hoodoos in a fiery red hue.
There are some great short walks that we can do along the rim, and several notable locations we can photograph. We'll find time for some meals and image review (if time permits).
We'll end the day with a sunset shoot on the rim. Afterwards, we'll enjoy dinner and discuss preparation for 'eclipse' day, and make sure the group is prepared.
Day 4 (B, L)
This is the big day! We'll start with sunrise over the Bryce Canyon rim and prepare for the annular solar eclipse.
Totality will happen at 10:30 am local time, and the last sliver of moon will move out of the sun's way at 12 pm local time. We will shoot for the entirety of the eclipse.
After witnessing one of the most magical phenomena, we'll get lunch and travel back to St. George where our trip will conclude.
We should arrive back in St. George around 4 pm local time.
