Trip Description:

Prepare for an unforgettable journey to Scoresby Sound, one of Greenland’s most remote and breathtaking fjord systems. Situated on the eastern coast of Greenland, Scoresby Sound boasts a vast network of fjords stretching over 200 miles inland, with towering cliffs, majestic glaciers, and colossal icebergs that rise up to 300 feet above the sea. This pristine wilderness remains untouched by humans, offering photographers an unparalleled opportunity to capture the raw beauty of Greenland and the Arctic.

The region’s geological history, shaped by tectonic forces and glacial activity, has carved out one of the deepest fjords in the world, with depths plunging beyond 4,760 feet. Its unique combination of natural factors—such as polynyas (areas of open water that do not freeze even in winter), protection from harsh winds, and fertile lands—makes it an exceptionally rich environment for Arctic wildlife as well. From muskox and Arctic foxes to sea-dwelling whales and seals, the wildlife of Scoresby Sound is as awe-inspiring as the landscapes they inhabit.

Schooner Hildur

Our home for this adventure is the Hildur, a beautifully restored oak vessel perfectly suited for navigating the narrow fjords and icy waters of Scoresby Sound. With a maximum capacity of 8 passengers, this small, intimate schooner guarantees a highly personalized experience. You will be staying in one of three cozy passenger cabins, each offering comfort and character:

Cabin Andvari (shared occupancy included in base price):

  • Accommodates 4 passengers.

  • Spacious cabin with two sets of upper and lower bunks, providing comfortable shared sleeping quarters.

Cabin Glaður (+$1,000 per person/couples only):

  • Accommodates 1-2 passengers.

  • Features a small double bed, ideal for couples.

Cabin Rimfakse (+$1,500 per person):

  • Accommodates 2 passengers.

  • Features an upper and lower bunk, perfect for individuals or friends sharing.

Why Scoresby Sound is a Bucket List Destination for Photographers

For photographers, Scoresby Sound is a dreamscape of endless possibilities. The fjord’s breathtaking beauty—its towering icebergs, mirror-like waters, and sweeping mountain vistas—presents an unrivaled canvas for landscape photography. The scale and magnitude of the icebergs, some larger than city blocks, are impossible to fully appreciate until you experience them in person, their shades of blue and green shifting with the Arctic light.

Moreover, Scoresby Sound offers rare opportunities to photograph Arctic wildlife. The region is home to muskox, Arctic hares, and occasionally polar bears, while the surrounding seas harbor narwhals and seals. Although wildlife sightings are unpredictable, this only heightens the excitement and challenge for photographers, making every encounter and photo opportunity unique.

The views from land, Zodiac, and schooner are spectacular, offering a variety of perspectives for capturing the immense beauty of the fjords. Shore excursions provide additional opportunities to explore and photograph the rugged, untouched landscapes up close, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the Arctic wilderness.

This trip is also drone-friendly, offering photographers and videographers the chance to capture aerial views of the ice-choked fjords, towering icebergs, and remote Arctic wilderness from perspectives otherwise impossible to achieve. With vast, open landscapes and minimal air traffic, Scoresby Sound is an ideal location to elevate your photography with aerial imagery.

Our scheduled departures mark the return of the Golden Hour to the Arctic, with soft, warm light illuminating the fjords and icebergs during the extended twilight hours. This creates unparalleled opportunities for photographers to capture dramatic landscapes bathed in the unique Arctic glow.

The remoteness of Scoresby Sound is part of its allure. Few places on Earth offer such a profound sense of solitude, with landscapes that have remained untouched for millennia. As one of the world’s largest and longest fjord systems, Scoresby Sound is a destination for photographers who seek not only adventure but world-class photography.
