Iconic Alpine Lakes: Photograph Lake Louise, Bow Lake, and more in their most photogenic light.
Scenic National Parks: Explore Banff and Yoho, from the emerald waters of Emerald Lake to the powerful Takakkaw Falls.
World-Class Mountain Drives: Travel the Icefields Parkway, capturing viewpoints like Peyto Lake, Mistaya Canyon, and the Columbia Icefield.
Golden Hour Landscapes: Maximize long sunrises and sunsets for extended photography time in the Rockies’ best light.
There’s a reason the Canadian Rockies are considered one of the world’s most photogenic mountain ranges—soaring peaks, jewel-toned lakes, and dramatic weather patterns combine to create scenes that seem pulled from a dream. This workshop is timed to capture Banff and its surrounding parks in peak photographic conditions, with crisp alpine air, vibrant lake reflections, and long golden hours. From the famous shores of Moraine Lake to the vast panoramas of the Icefields Parkway, each day will bring a fresh opportunity to capture the Rockies’ beauty.
We’ll start in Calgary and quickly make our way toward Canmore and Banff, photographing sunrise over the Three Sisters and exploring the expansive shoreline of Lake Minnewanka. Our days will be filled with a balance of grand vistas and more intimate nature scenes—places like Two Jack Lake, Johnston Canyon, and Castle Mountain, where the interplay of light, shadow, and water offers endless compositions.
Yoho National Park, just across the provincial border in British Columbia, will provide an entirely new set of scenes to explore. Emerald Lake, with its glassy water and surrounding peaks, is a dream for reflection shots, while the Natural Bridge offers flowing water and ice formations that make for striking foregrounds. Takakkaw Falls, one of Canada’s tallest waterfalls, will be a highlight for both wide and telephoto work.
Lake Louise, with its turquoise waters framed by towering peaks, offers countless compositions along the lakeshore and surrounding trails. Nearby, Waterfowl Lakes provides a quieter, equally stunning setting with dramatic mountain backdrops, while Bow Lake is perfect for capturing reflections and changing light throughout the day. These locations give us a diverse mix of grand landscapes and intimate details to work with. If shuttle tickets are available, we may also include a visit to Moraine Lake to photograph its iconic vistas, but this will depend on access and scheduling at the time of our trip. The Icefields Parkway will be another trip highlight—this legendary mountain road offers nonstop scenery, from the sweep of Peyto Lake to the glacial expanse of the Columbia Icefield.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have experienced an incredible range of landscapes in both Banff and Yoho, from tranquil pond reflections to vast mountain panoramas. You’ll return home with not only a stunning portfolio of images, but also the knowledge and confidence to make the most of changing light and dynamic conditions in any mountain environment.

Most meals included – (B,L,D) denotes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 1 – Arrival in Calgary (D)
We’ll meet in Calgary this afternoon, arriving at our hotel near the airport where we can settle in before gathering for our first group dinner. Over the meal, we’ll get to know one another, go over the trip itinerary, and set expectations for the days ahead.
Day 2 – Sunrise & Transfer to Banff (B,L,D)
We’ll begin the morning with a sunrise shoot near Canmore’s iconic Three Sisters, taking advantage of the soft light over the peaks. After breakfast, we’ll make our way to Banff, with time to explore the shoreline of Lake Minnewanka before checking in to our lodge. The day will end with a sunset session at Vermilion Lakes followed by dinner in town.
Day 3 – Banff Lakes Loop (B,L,D)
Our morning starts at Lake Minnewanka for sunrise, followed by some downtime or a midday photo review session. In the afternoon, we’ll explore Two Jack Lake and Johnston Canyon before heading to Castle Mountain for golden-hour light and sunset.
Day 4 – Exploring Yoho National Park (B,L,D)
An early departure will take us into Yoho National Park for sunrise at Emerald Lake. After a late breakfast, we’ll stop at the Natural Bridge and make roadside photo stops along the way. Day 5 – Moraine & Louise (B,L,D)
While we’ll make every effort to visit Moraine Lake for its stunning alpine scenery, access is only possible by shuttle and is subject to availability. Day 7 – Farewell Sunrise & Return to Calgary (B)
Our final morning will feature a sunrise shoot at Wedge Pond, with Mount Kidd reflecting in the still water if conditions allow. After breakfast and checkout, we’ll make the drive back to Calgary, arriving around midday for airport drop-offs and goodbyes.
