Join Backcountry Journeys for a once-in-a-lifetime photo workshop in southern France, where you’ll photograph two of Europe’s most iconic visual spectacles: the legendary white horses of Camargue and the blooming lavender fields of Provence. This immersive photo tour is timed perfectly for the peak of summer light and color—offering unforgettable opportunities to capture action, atmosphere, and timeless landscapes.
The adventure begins in the heart of Provence, where rolling hills erupt in purple as rows of lavender stretch toward the horizon. We’ll photograph the bloom at sunrise and sunset in the famed Valensole Plateau, with its old stone buildings, lone trees, and charming villages providing a dreamlike backdrop. We’ll explore quaint towns like Moustiers-Sainte-Marie and Aix-en-Provence, ideal for capturing street scenes, architecture, and local culture. Each session is carefully timed for optimal light, and includes instruction on techniques like focus stacking, exposure blending, and creative composition.
Then, we journey south to the Camargue, a wild and untamed region where snow-white horses run through coastal marshes under golden light. These ancient horses—one of the oldest breeds in the world—are symbols of strength, freedom, and beauty. You’ll have multiple action-packed photography sessions with the horses, guided by local ranchers who help choreograph dramatic scenes through shallow waters and over windswept salt flats. We’ll also explore the wetlands and vibrant pink salt ponds of the Camargue National Park, adding even more diversity to your portfolio.
This photography workshop is designed to provide both creative inspiration and technical growth. You’ll receive personalized instruction in the field and during review sessions, all while enjoying world-class cuisine, boutique accommodations, and seamless travel logistics.
Whether you're drawn to wildlife, landscape, or cultural photography, this photo tour of Camargue and Provence offers an unmatched blend of subjects, light, and storytelling potential. Space is limited—don’t miss your chance to photograph two of Europe’s most photogenic regions in one unforgettable journey.
