Discover Monterey Bay's Marine Wonders
Welcome to the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, the 'Serengeti of the Sea'. Encompassing an impressive expanse of 6,094 square miles, the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary proudly holds the title of the largest protected ocean area in the continental United States. From the coastal waters north of San Francisco to the southern reaches of the Big Sur coast, this sanctuary is a haven of natural wonders.
Its expansive size and unique blend of geology, weather patterns, and currents create an extraordinary ecosystem that ranks among the most vibrant and productive on our planet. Year after year, countless marine creatures embark on epic journeys spanning thousands of miles, drawn to these bountiful feeding grounds. Just like a bustling neighborhood, the sanctuary offers an ideal combination of exceptional habitats and abundant sustenance for its diverse inhabitants.
Unparalleled Whale Photography Experiences
Fall is a fantastic time to witness marine wildlife in the sanctuary. With four private boat charters, we maximize your chances of capturing awe-inspiring shots of humpback whales gracefully breaching the surface, playful Risso's dolphins darting through the waves, and, if luck is on our side, even encounters with orcas.
October, historically known for incredible humpback whale sightings, is also a great time for multiple dolphin species and possibly blue whales and fin whales! We work with a crew that specialize in photography tours and are trained in positioning the boat just right for lighting - this is key for photography! Along with our BCJ guides, our awesome team will help you capture the best moments from the trip.

Most meals included – (B,L,D) denotes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 1 (D)
Arrive to Monterey, California. If flying, Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) provides non-stop and 1-stop services from many major airports in the US. We will meet at 5:00 pm for orientation and dinner.
Days 2 - 4 (B,L,D)
Each day will consist of a 4-hour morning session on our privately chartered vessel. We've chosen a vessel with a max capacity of 48 passengers, this means there's plenty of space for all photographers and it provides a more stable platform for photographer versus a small boat.
We'll spend the mornings cruising around Monterey Bay looking for breaching humpback whales, dolphins, porpoises, sea otters, and maybe even killer whales and right whales. After our charter, we'll enjoy lunch and spend the middle of day reviewing images or processing. In the afternoons, we'll shift our focus to landscapes, as we explore the pristine coastlines of the Big Sur region.
Day 5 (B,L)
On our last day, we'll enjoy one last morning charter in Monterey Bay for marine wildlife. Afterwards, we'll enjoy a final lunch as a group and conclude the trip. The trip will conclude around 2 pm and flights can be made out of MRY any time after 4 pm.
