Our Colorado Fall Colors photo workshop and tour is the ultimate experience for nature and photography enthusiasts looking to capture the magic of autumn in one of the most picturesque locations in the United States.
During this six-day adventure, we'll take you deep into the heart of the San Juan Mountains, a high and rugged range that stretches across southwestern Colorado. This area is known for some of the largest and most breathtaking Aspen groves in the state, and our knowledgeable guides will take you to the best locations to capture the vibrant golden hues of the leaves against the rugged mountain peaks.
We'll explore the endless back roads that wind their way through the mountains, giving you countless opportunities to capture grand landscapes and intimate scenes. From still pond reflections bursting in color to jagged mountain ranges above a tapestry of turning leaves, you'll be in awe at the endless compositions that await you. Each day, as the sun rises, the light creeps across the landscape, illuminating the vibrant yellow Aspens, and we'll ensure you're in the right locations to capture the magic!
The San Juan Mountains are home to some of the most beautiful areas in the region, including some off-the-beaten-path locations that few visitors ever get to experience. Our expert guides will take you to these hidden gems and provide you with expert instruction on how best to capture the light and interesting compositions.
But our workshop doesn't end in the field. We'll provide you with instruction on how to capture the perfect shot and create unique compositions. You'll learn about different camera settings, the importance of light, and how to use filters to enhance your photos. We'll even provide assistance to help you with your post-processing editing to bring your images to life.

Trip Itinerary
Most meals included – (B,L,D) denotes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 1 (D)
Arrive to Montrose, Colorado. We will meet at 5:00 pm for orientation and dinner.
Day 2 (B,L,D)
We'll leave Montrose and travel down the famous Million Dollar Highway towards Ouray, capturing stunning fall foliage scenes along the way. We'll drive through the winding mountain roads that lead to one of the most scenic areas in the state, passing by vibrant aspen groves, towering mountain peaks, and cascading waterfalls. We'll make stops at several locations to capture the picturesque landscapes, and take the time to explore the charming town of Ouray. We'll finish Day 2 with a dinner and a great sunset at a nearby location.
Days 3 - 5 (B,L,D)
We'll spend the next few days chasing the light and fall color. We'll visit some of the most iconic spots in the area, as well as mix in some off-the-beaten path locations. Expect everything from wide-angle, grand landscape scenes to telephoto abstracts. There will be shots from 14-400mm everywhere we look. With the right conditions, this can be one of the most productive areas in the US for photography. We'll make the most of our days, and also make a day stop to the beautiful, nearby town of Telluride.
Day 6 (B)
On our final morning, we'll photograph one last colorful sunrise then have a celebratory breakfast as a group for a great trip. We will head back to Montrose, Colorado to conclude our trip. Historically, there are flights out of Montrose Regional Airport around 12 pm, which are fine to book for your return home.

Please note that the exact sequence of the itineraries on all photography trips will be based on weather and lighting conditions. The goal on these trips is to make sure we are at the right place at the right time for the perfect light on our subjects. Also, itineraries can change for a variety of other circumstances including floods, forest fires, national park closures, road closures, and more. Due to the nature of wildlife and landscape photography, we do not guarantee any specific sightings or specific compositions.
