The Great Plains, stretching across the heartland of the United States, are a hotbed for intense weather phenomena, offering storm chasers and photographers alike a front-row seat to nature's most captivating displays. During the storm season, which typically peaks in June, the region becomes a battleground of colliding air masses, setting the stage for the creation of massive supercells and mesmerizing tornadoes.
During the month of June, the Great Plains experience a notable shift in weather patterns. As the jetstream retreats to higher latitudes, it sets the stage for an increase in storm activity along the High Plains. This transition heralds the arrival of powerful supercells and the mesmerizing spectacle of tornadoes. It is this precise juncture that makes our storm chasing adventure all the more exhilarating.
This is one of the more unique workshops we offer. We start and end in Denver, Colorado, but our daily itinerary and lodging location is dictated by storm activity.
The proximity of Denver to the High Plains allows us to swiftly respond to evolving weather conditions and position ourselves in optimal locations for storm interception. The city's access to major highways and transportation infrastructure facilitates our mobility, ensuring that we are well-positioned to capture the awe-inspiring moments as they unfold.
We will have an experienced, dedicated Lead Weather Forecaster and storm chaser working with us on this trip. He will help us locate storms and pinpoint the best conjunction points for photography. This is a huge added bonus of this workshop, as we will be able to track storms in a much safer and efficient manner.
This is unlike our traditional workshops where lodging and itinerary are set from the start. Each day, we will chase the weather and maximize our photography opportunities. We don't know where the storms will take us, thus, we book lodging on the ground each night to get us the utmost flexibility. We always stay in the best properties available (usually 2 to 3-star hotels), but you should not expect 4+ star hotels on the trip. Flexibility is the most important facet to storm chasing so we prioritize it so we can get world-class storm images.
This is the ultimate photo adventure and chase. You'll learn how to properly photograph storm cells, lightning, and more. Plus, this is a great opportunity to learn more about timelapse photography. Join us today and get your camera ready to chase some storms!
