Our tour offerings in the American Southwest grow by one today as we announce a new hiker photo tour to another southern Utah location, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
Backcountry Journeys has developed an exciting lodge-based, hiker photo tour of this magnificent hidden gem of Utah’s canyon country.
Escalante is a “diamond-in-the-rough” type of place – perfect for photographers and explorers alike – who are looking for sights equal in amazement to the more acclaimed National Parks but without crowds.
The National Monument, dedicated as recently as 1996, protects 1.7 million acres of rocky moon-like landscape. Erosion of the ancient sedimentary rock here has revealed deep canyons and an array of shaped rock and colorful mudstone, shale, sandstone and limestone layers that are truly hard to believe exist.
Join Backcountry Journeys as we’ll hike to the must-see highlights of this high desert and carved canyon landscape. Here we’ll find, and photograph, haunting rock formations, deep and narrow slot canyons, and creeks and arches under glorious high desert skies. The photography opportunities in the monument are all reached via day hikes – the hiking is beautiful but rugged so be prepared. We have departures in both the Spring & Fall starting in 2020 and you can book this trip in conjunction with our Zion & Bryce hiker trip or our Arches & Canyonlands hiker trip for a longer stay in “Canyon Country”.
