Rosemarie Skillman is a landscape and wildlife photographer, educator, and full time traveler with a passion for helping others grow both technically and creatively behind the camera. A photographer for over ten years with more than fourteen years of editing experience, she has been teaching art classes since 2021 and joined Backcountry Journeys in 2024, beginning as a trip leader in 2025.

 

Specializing in landscapes, wildlife, astrophotography, and birds in motion, Rosemarie is drawn to the ever changing nature of the outdoors. She believes every day in the field offers something new, whether it is fresh snow blanketing a familiar landscape, wildflowers reaching peak bloom, dramatic weather rolling across the mountains, or an unforgettable wildlife encounter. Those fleeting moments continue to inspire both her photography and her teaching.

 

Rosemarie photographs with the Fujifilm X System, using the Fujifilm X H2 and X H2S to create images that celebrate the beauty and diversity of the natural world. She has also worked professionally in portrait and real estate photography, experiences that strengthened her understanding of composition, light, and visual storytelling.

 

Teaching has become one of Rosemarie's greatest passions. Having taught classes of up to thirty students, she believes the best learning happens when instruction is tailored to different learning styles. Whether demonstrating a technique in the field, explaining the technical decisions behind an image, or helping guests refine their photographs during post processing, her goal is to make photography approachable, engaging, and enjoyable. She loves seeing photographers gain confidence in their own creativity while developing the skills to consistently create stronger images.

 

Living full time in her van allows Rosemarie to stay immersed in the landscapes that inspire her most. When she is not leading workshops, she can usually be found hiking, paddle boarding, cooking from scratch, reading about the natural world or the latest thriller, and chasing sunrise light across a new corner of the country.

 

Rosemarie's hope is that every guest leaves her workshops with new skills, lasting memories, greater confidence, and the feeling that learning photography can be just as rewarding as creating the final image.
