I was born and raised in Somerset West, a town in South Africa sandwiched between the mountains and the ocean. From a young age, my parents instilled in me a love of travel and nature. Family vacations were spent visiting off-the-beaten-path destinations, hiking scenic mountain trails, beachcombing, and wildlife spotting in South Africa, and neighboring Botswana, and Namibia. Understandably, Southern Africa holds a very special place in my heart!
Our travels as a family also included trips to the UK, Europe, and the United States, further fueling my wanderlust.
As I grew older, my love for wildlife and wild places only intensified, and I went on to study zoology, animal physiology, and nature conservation, dreaming of becoming a gamer ranger. During my Masters (degree) year, I lived in a modest caravan (not an RV) on a private game reserve, studying wild ungulate species.
Life has a way of taking us on unexpected journeys, and for several reasons, I found myself embarking on a different path - that of a travel agent. While it wasn't the career I had initially envisioned, it opened doors to my other love - travel. But my love for nature never waned.
In 2004, after completing a sailing course in Cape Town, I sailed across the Atlantic to Fort Lauderdale, as crew on a 47ft Catamaran. Here I worked on private motor yachts for 6 years, exploring the Bahamas and the U.S. East Coast, before accepting a job as an adventure travel agent in 2014.
Although my photography journey began at the tender age of 5, it wasn’t until my early twenties, while living in the UK and backpacking through Europe and Canada, that it developed into a real passion. Inspired by the rugged landscapes of Scotland and Canada, I recognized photography's power to capture the raw beauty of nature. This love for nature and wildlife/landscape photography has not only enriched my personal life but inspired me to share these experiences with others, hoping to raise awareness about preserving our natural world. I believe deeply in conservation and sustainable travel and feel that as curators of travel experiences, we have a responsibility to protect the wild places and communities we engage with and should inspire our travelers to do the same.
My camera has taken me to extraordinary places, including Svalbard, India, Iceland, Costa Rica, and back to South Africa, as well as various U.S. destinations including Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, North Cascades and Mt. Rainier National Parks, Maine’s coastline, North Carolina's Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains, and Utah and Arizona's incredible desert landscapes. After spending 20 years in Florida, where I developed a love for bird photography, I recently moved to Colorado where, for the past 4 months, I've been exploring the winter landscapes of the Front Range through hiking and snowshoeing on weekends.
In addition to my passion for photography and travel, I enjoy spending my free time reading, researching far-off destinations, and hiking with my husband. Until recently, I made it a daily ritual to walk my beloved and deeply missed 4-legged companion, Toby.
