Scott Douglas is a photographer with a diverse artistic background that began in the music industry. Traveling across the world for his orchestral career profoundly influenced his current focus on wildlife and landscapes, often with a special interest in endemic species, conservation, and distinctive coastal scenes.
Scott's artistic and professional journey began by shooting live events, portraits, and architecture during his graduate studies in Chicago, and he’s excited to bring his eclectic background and passion for artistry to the Backcountry Journeys team. One of his favorite parts about being a trip leader is helping fellow photographers learn to enjoy and experience every aspect of the incredible destinations we visit–whether that means identifying the songs of rare birds high in the canopy or allowing the crashing waves to soak our ankles while capturing a perfect seascape composition.
In his free time, Scott enjoys entertaining his two Italian Greyhounds, developing new vegan recipes with his fiancé, and exploring anything related to the arts. He regularly performs in orchestras throughout the Midwest, has served as guest principal flute of the New Orleans Opera & Louisiana Philharmonic, and as piccoloist of the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra & La Crosse Symphony Orchestra. Scott has also recorded with several distinguished record labels in Chicago and Cleveland, and he has been a featured performer on WFMT 98.7 and WCLV 104.9.
