RECOMMENDED TRIP INSURANCE POLICIES

For select itineraries, we require participants to purchase trip insurance. For those trips, we recommend the plans listed below, though you may choose any independent trip insurance policy that provides a minimum of $250,000 in medical and evacuation coverage.

For all other tours, we strongly encourage guests to consider purchasing trip insurance.
Trip insurance is a prudent investment when traveling with Backcountry Journeys. Unexpected events such as illness or injury (like Covid), flight delays or cancellations, or family emergencies can quickly disrupt even the most carefully planned trip. Our tours are active in nature and are often booked several years in advance, making trip protection well worth serious consideration.

Each Backcountry Journeys tour has a limited number of guest spaces. Once you register, your spot is reserved exclusively for you and is no longer available to others. For this reason, our Terms and Conditions specify that cancellations made after the final payment date are not eligible for a refund or transfer. Trip insurance helps protect not only your investment with us, but also your related travel expenses, including flights, accommodations, and other pre-paid costs.

Concerned about Pre-existing Medical? Want to obtain a waiver of pre-existing conditions?
Travel SE: Purchase trip insurance within 20 days of your initial payment or deposit to obtain waiver of pre-existing conditions.

Travel LX:  Purchase trip insurance within 24 hour of final trip payment.

TRIP INSURANCE PLANS

TRAVEL SE

This is our # 1 selling policy. Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption benefits combined with emergency medical and evacuation benefits. Common claims include illness prior or during trip (Covid), injury prior to trip, travel delay, and hospitalization or death of a family member.
Notice Covid is a covered claim.

To file a claim on Covid you do need a test from a doctor’s office or clinic. At home tests are not eligible for claims. Quarantine Benefits are also included in this plan.
Example 1: Ansel and Virginia each insure their trip for $5,000. Ansel breaks his finger prior to the trip. They submit a cancellation request and are refunded up to $10,000 of losses.

Example 2: Anna and Beverly meet in a local photography group. They book a trip together and each insure the trip. Anna’s grandma passes away before the trip. Both Anna and Beverly can file a cancellation claim.

TRAVEL LX

The Travel LX policy includes Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption coverage in addition to increased medical and emergency evacuation benefits. The TRAVEL LX policy also offers an Optional Rider for CANCEL FOR ANY REASON (CFAR).

Example, your son’s little league team makes it to the state finals, and you decide to cancel your tour. The CFAR Rider allows you to file a claim and collect 75% re-imbursement on non-covered claims (like a little league game). To be eligible to CANCEL FOR ANY REASON you must purchase the policy within 20 days of initial trip deposit and purchase the Optional CFAR Rider.

Additionally. your personal Health Insurance Policy would most likely not cover an evacuation above 9,000 feet. If this is the case, the Travel SE would be a suitable option for these types of destinations.
*Important Note (A): Cancel for Any Reason Rider Not Available in the State of New York.
COVID CLAIMS: If you test positive for COVID-19 before or during a domestic or international trip, it’s very important that you visit a doctor or clinic to document your diagnosis. Proper verification from a doctor is required to make a Covid claim on your policy.
