Since we ran two trips to Costa Rica within a relatively short timeframe this year I’m going to do one Trip Report that will highlight the images from each trip as well as from Tortuguero National Park on the Caribbean side. The Osa Peninsula is a unique locale even for Costa Rica due to the wealth of wildlife one is able to photograph in such a small area. Nowhere else in the country can you photograph Scarlet Macaws and Squirrel Monkeys in such abundance and short walking distance.
Our Wildlife of Costa Rica Photography Tour & Workshop is based out of the Lookout Inn due to it’s remote location and plethora of wildlife. The Lookout Inn is the perfect escape for the adventurous photographer looking for great wildlife images. Keep in mind this is a “hiker” trip and don’t expect the Ritz Carlton way out in the remote rainforests of the Osa Peninsula!
This year we were able to photograph the following critters: Golden Mantled Howler Monkeys, Squirrel Monkeys, Geoffries Spider Monkey, White Faced Capuchin Monkey, Scarlet Macaw, Chestnut Mandibled Toucan, Green Iguana, Black Iguana, Jesus Christ Lizard, Parrot Snake, Tree Boa, Two-Toed Sloth, Three Toed Sloth, Northern Tamandua, Silky Anteater, White Nosed Coati, Collared Peccary, Roadside Hawk, Black Hawk, White Hawk, Black Vultures, Turkey Vultures, King Vultures, Crested Aracari, Tiger Heron, Blue Heron, Great Egret, Cattle Egret, Snowy Egret, White Ibis, Double Toothed Kite, Caiman, Crocodile, Ghost Crabs, Hermit Crabs and several varieties of Tanager, Kingfisher and so much more.
The first trip did not see Squirrel Monkeys or Sloths and neither trip was able to see a Tapir but thus is the nature of wildlife photography. As always Terry the owner of the Lookout Inn and his trusty crew kept us well hydrated and very well fed with their excellent family style, locally sourced and inspired meals served overlooking the Pacific Ocean at the Lookout Inn.
Take a peek below to see some of the images from these two trips and thanks to all of our great guests for making these trips so successful!
