Trip Description:

Join us on the ultimate landscape photography adventure in the breathtaking desert Southwest. This meticulously crafted 9-day journey invites you to capture the Colorado Plateau's most magnificent scenes. We've combined the best locations of our favorite trips into a single, extraordinary itinerary. From the iconic views of Zion National Park to the majestic expanse of the Grand Canyon, this trip covers it all!

Zion National Park:
Our epic desert adventure starts out in the towering canyons and sandstone domes of Zion National Park. Over the course of two days, we’ll explore and photograph the many iconic shot locations of the park. We’ll delve deep into the heart of the canyon carved out by the Virgin River and will climb high up onto the plateaus above. Zion National Park is a truly unique and awe-inspiring location full of superb landscape opportunities. It’s the perfect place to start off this ultimate desert experience!

Bryce Canyon National Park:
Next, we’ll head up in elevation and venture into the other-worldly landscape of Bryce Canyon. With its vast amphitheaters filled with intricate mazes of hoodoos there’s no shortage of stunning compositions here. During our time in Bryce, we’ll capture mesmerizing sunrises and sunsets from the top of the plateau and will explore narrow passageways through the hoodoos themselves. Bryce canyon presents countless unique and jaw-dropping compositions just waiting to be captured. The sunrises here are particularity special as they slowly illuminate each of the amphitheaters facing to the east.

Horseshoe Bend and Slot Canyons:
As our journey continues, we’ll drop in elevation travelling through layers of rock and time as we head Southeast towards the Grand Canyon, ultimately arriving in Page, Arizona. This small town, nestled in the desert, is the perfect home base for the next leg of our journey as it’s in close proximity to our next several shot locations. While here, we’ll head out to the iconic Horseshoe bend where the Colorado River cuts a beautiful arc through layers of sandstone. We’ll also head deep into the depths of the world-famous slot canyon, Antelope Canyon X, to capture intricate patterns of warm light as it finds its way through this narrow crack in the earth.

The South Rim of the Grand Canyon:
Our epic exploration of the Colorado Plateau will conclude at one of the most remarkable places on the entire planet: The South rim of the Grand Canyon. For our final two days, we will travel to many stunning locations overlooking one of nature’s greatest marvels. We’ll have the opportunity to capture expansive landscape compositions at sunrise, sunset, and while illuminated by the everchanging light of both the golden and blue hours. The Grand Canyon is unlike anywhere else on earth, and your destined to leave this magical place with photos and memories to last a lifetime!

Testimonials From Our Customers
Julie K.
"I have traveled with Backcountry Journeys (BCJ) several times over the last 4 years to Glacier NP, Costa Rica (2x), Smoky Mountains NP, Joshua Tree, Zion and Bryce NPs, and most recently to Alaska.

Every trip with BCJ has been an outstanding experience. The guides are professional photographers who put the experience of the guests first. They are willing to provide as much hands on help as you need/want. The guides are also extremely knowledgeable and well trained in wilderness safety as well as the areas they guide.

BCJ trips are well run from the time of reservation through the entire trip. They will take you to great places and find great photographic opportunities."

"BCJ provides an outstanding experience for photographers of all levels of experience/expertise. Each day's excursion is well planned-out and the guides always have a back-up plan if the weather is less than cooperative.

I have now been on 5 trips and each one seems better than the last. I find the guides to be very helpful and personable. The guides provide the level of hands-on assistance each participant wants.

The accommodations are always good, taking into consideration what each particular destination has to offer. I plan to continue doing these trips with BCJ and can't recommend them highly enough."

"I have now been on 8 trips with Backcountry Journeys. I love traveling with this company, as I am a woman traveling alone, and all I have to do is show up and they take care of everything else.

They have wonderful, caring, helpful, FUN, and knowledgeable guides who make the days fly by. They get us to the best photography sites possible and are always willing to help with anything and answer all questions.

We stay in great places and there is always too much wonderful food! I have met other travelers on their trips who will be friends for life, plus the guides are more than guides--they become friends too. I know I will be doing more traveling with them in the future."
